(Commander office)
Fuyusuki: This one!
The computer screen on the table showed a document, at least, something that looked like one. The wordings were in Japanese, Chinese, English, Spanish, Thai, Indian......to simplify, it just do not make sense.
Shinji: What is this? I want to know about Rei. Who cares about all these symbol here.
Fuyusuki: This is a secret document about the detail of Rei. Only Gendou knows the password.
Shinji: So it wasn't as simple as cloning my mother.
Fuyusuki: Gendou once told me that she isn't exactly the clone of your mother....there is more, but I wasn't interested in that issue at that time.
Shinji: Damn....... You think I'll keep quiet about this?
Fuyusuki: I would like you to, but I know that it is impossible.
Shinji: I'll get everyone to help me.
Fuyusuki: But how would they look at Rei after they knows about this?
Shinji was shock upon hearing that. He walked out of the office, not in his usual self.
(a week later)
Rei, Asuka and Horoshi were discharged and returned to school. Asuka and Horoshi acted like new-comers. Shinji seemed to be very disturbed, but no one knows the reason behind. Ritsuko said that Shinji's sync ratio have dropped 10 points. Asuka and Horoshi still need some time before they can try piloting EVAs again.
(A room)
The room have one beds and some simple lighting. The lights were dim. Rei, who was wearing a Jacket and a mini-skirt, were sitting on the bed. Chyaku, dressed in T-shirt and track pants, was standing next to her. Chyaku put a hand on Rei's face.
Chyaku: You are a cute chick.
Rei: (empty in her eyes) Thank you.
Chyaku: (a lustful look on his face) 5000, I want you for just one night.
Rei: 6000.
Chyaku: (hand still touching her face) Deal. You are pretty.
Rei took off her jacket. Slowly, she started to unbutton her shirt.
Rei: (softly) I can't believe what I'm doing. But I have to.
As Rei undone her second button, the door slammed open. Matsuki and Shinji were standing on the other end of the door.
Matsuki: What are you trying to do to my sister?
Chyaku: Hey, who are they?
Rei: (to Matsuki) Leave us alone. I need the cash. You know I need it.
Chyaku: Heard it? Get lost.
Matsuki: You get your hand off her.
Matsuki ran toward Chyaku and gave a kick, which will most likely cause someone to black out for hours. Chyaku blocked the kick with his right hand, but did not manage to keep his balance and fell onto the bed.
Silent followed.
(half a minute later)
Matsuki: (softly) Shinji? Your turn.
Shinji looked as if an alarm clock have woke him up from his dream.
Shinji: My turn? What?
Hikari: (shouting) Cut!!!
The whole area brighten, reveling that the "hotel room" was the stage of some hall in the school. The class was sitting just below the stage. Hikari ran up the stage angrily and gave Shinji a knock on his head. Asuka put the jacket over Rei. Chyaku stood up and rubbed his knuckle in pain. Matsuki handed him a bottle of medication oil.
Chyaku: Matsuki, that hurts a bit.
Matsuki: I think I got the wrong spot, sorry.
( up the stage)
Hikari: The audition is in a week's time. How can you forget your lines?
Shinji: Sorry.
Rei: Shinji, what's wrong?
Shinji: Nothing. It is alright, Rei.
Then, Matsuki's cell phone rang.
Matsuki: (phone) Hello?....Bring them alone? Okay, C-ya.
Chyaku: What's up?
Matsuki: Misato called. She said bring Horoshi and Asuka to Nerv today. Where is Horoshi? And Yapioko?
Touji: They went to get something for us to drink.
(School canteen)
Yapioko and Horoshi both walking back with bottles on drinks in hand.
Horoshi: Yapioko, what kind of person am I? Was I?
Yapioko: How should I know?
Horoshi: What do you feel about me?
Yapioko: You are fine, and considered nice compared to idiots and perverts like Touji and...you know. (in thought) You must have forgotten our most important mission.
Horoshi: You know I've this special feeling about you. You are just....a angel at first sight.
Yapioko: Look like you have forgotten, we never describe a girl as angel.
Horoshi: You get what I'm trying to say....I think I'm having a crush on you.
Yapioko: Oh boy.....you can't, you have more important thing to do. (In thought) Love is destructive, Chyaku and Matsuki are blinded by love, they even forgot about the plan. I can't be like them.
Horoshi: What else can be more important than getting the heart of a girl.
Yapioko was a bit touched.
Yapioko: (in thought) You can't, but I can't bring myself to reject him...
Yapioko: We'll see. I'll consider.
Then, she ran off to the hall. Horoshi followed.
(Some time later, Nerv)
Chyaku decided not to do any office work today. His injured right hand help him make the decision. He went to the firing practice range. Yapioko came into the range and caught sight of his result.
Yapioko: Back in UN, you would have failed.
Chyaku: Just passed, the grouping is 4.2cm. You can't expect a right- handed to shoot well with his left.
Yapioko: Really?
Yapioko took the pistol from Chyaku's hand. With her left, she took 5 shots.
Yapioko: 1.8cm. Not too bad, right?
Chyaku: Fine, you win this one.
PA system: Would Ltn Narami and Ltn Rai report to the 2nd announcement room now!
Chyaku: Got to go. C-ya.
He walked off.
(Nerv 2nd announcement room)
A large group of people gathered around. Chyaku and Matsuki sort of know what to expect.
Fuyusuki: We have some promotion to be done here today. Firstly, promoted to the position of Head of tactical operation, Captain Rai Matsuki.
Matsuki was given a red jacket, identical Misato used to wear, and one more bar on her collar.
Fuyusuki: With this, Misato will be able to concentrate on her work as second in command. Next, out head of weapon and equipment, Narami Chyaku. As head of department, it is only right to promote him to the rank of Captain.
Chyaku was given another red jacket, but with different design, showing that it is the men's version. The extra bar were also given to him.
Fuyusuki: That done it. Chyaku and Matsuki, please come to my office, same thing apply to you, Shinji.
(Commander office)
The 4 sit in front of the computer. The "Rei's document" once again opened, revealing the same symbol which no one understand. Fuyusuki explained to Chyaku and Matsuki about Rei.
Fuyusuki: I'm here to ask for your help. To crack the code. Shinji need to know what is Rei.
Shinji: Yes.
Chyaku: What you expect us to do?
Fuyusuki: Guess the code, you have only three tries.
Matsuki: That's impossible.
Shinji: Please, help me. She can't be my mother. You know...
Chyaku: Running away from reality again?
Shinji: No! I'm facing reality. I need to know what is Rei. What exactly is she.
Matsuki went over to the keyboard, she typed: Ikari Yui
*access denied*
Shinji took his turn: Gendou Ikari
*Access denied*
Chyaku: So you want me to be the last one.
Matsuki: Just give a try.
Chyaku: Rei.
He went over. With only his left hand, he typed tried to type "rei", but due to not used to type with one hand, he typed: Rai. Making a typo error.
Chyaku: I think I replaced the "e" with an "a"
Disappointment filled the room. Chyaku felt a bit guilty. But..
*access granted*
Shinji: What?
The whole document started to translate into English and begin to make sense.
Chyaku: R A I...sound familiar....(looked toward Matsuki) That is your family name, isn't it.
Matsuki nodded. She was busy reading the document.
(after half and hour)
They have went through the whole file. Chyaku, Matsuki and Fuyusuki looked shock and stunned. Shinji, however, was more confused by the use of scientific terms.
Shinji: So, what does it mean? Is she my mother? My sister?
Matsuki: Look more like MY half-sister.
Fuyusuki: Anyone would like to try to explain it for Shinji?
Chyaku: Let me try to simplify it. Rei, the first child, was made this way, or rather borned this way. Firstly, they take a cell from the first Angel. Then, take out a ovary cell from Shinji's mother. With the technology, extract the nucleus from the ovary cell and replace it with the nucleus from the First Angel's cell.
Matsuki: In another word, all the DNA and genetic thing in that "ovary" cell is of the first Angel, not of Yui Ikari.
Shinji tried very hard to follow the explanation.
Chyaku: Then they put the Ovary cell back into Mrs. Ikari's body. They needed a sperm to start the ovary growing, because the cell structure was still of a human.
Matsuki: And since Gendou was not confident about this, he "borrowed" my father's sperm cell. In other word, the genetic combination of Rei is MY father and the first Angel. (in thought) Of all people.
Chyaku: That explain the password....
Matsuki: Then in the 4th month, they took the cell out of Mrs Ikari and put in into some life supporting machine. From there, they took cells from the growing baby. With the new cells, they start to clone the baby.
Chyaku: So, Rei was born from the birth cannel of Mrs Ikari, but do not carry any genetic code from her.
Shinji: Can you make it simple? I just want to know if she is related to me. I love her, I need to know if I can have children with her and all that.....
Fuyusuki: I agree with the analyze of Chyaku and Matsuki. Genetically, you have not blood-tie with her. But physically, both of you came out from the same birth cannel.
Shinji: I'll accept the former. I've not blood tie with her, so it mean that I can marry her.
Chyaku: On paper...yes.
Shinji: Thanks...Thanks so much.
Shinji started jumping for joy.
Matsuki: But why did people call her a "clone". Even if no one knows about the change of nucleus, she is more like Yui's daughter.
Chyaku: If I take a cell from you now, and put into some form of machine to grow it. Is the product your daughter or your clone?
Matsuki: More of my clone.
Fuyusuki: Same concept applied. Rei was not a fully grown baby when she was taken out of Yui's womb. In fact she was just a caster of cells.
Matsuki: So the scientists thought that they were re-producing from the cells of Ikari Yui. Therefore, they write the document saying that Rei was a "clone of Yui".
Chyaku: Why did Gendou chose his wife?
Fuyusuki: Guess he can trust no other woman.
Matsuki: I have a new question in mind, is Rei considered my half-sister?
Fuyusuki: We can say so.....But I guess we better do not tell the others, except Misato. I'll speak to her myself.
Matsuki nodded.
